In January 2011, MTQ will be buzzing with things to see and do, including a fun program of creepy crawly craft, games and activities to keep kids busy!

WEEK ONE 4-7 JANUARY

Sketching Activity

9.30am-5pm daily
Release your inner artist and sketch some of our special insect specimens to add to our art gallery.
Age 12-17.

Artist in Residence

10-11am, 11am-12pm & 1-2pm
Be part of something spectacular and help our artist in residence create a giant caterpillar. Bookings required. Ages 5-12.

WEEK TWO 10-14 JANUARY

Release your inner artist and sketch some of our special insect specimens to add to our art gallery. Age 12-17.

Rapt in Reptiles

10am & 12pm daily
Explore a range of North Queensland’s reptiles through games and craft. Bookings required. Ages 5-12.

Live Reptiles

9.30am-1.30pm
Watch out for our live reptile handling shows with slithering snakes and lizards! 10-minute talks every hour. Thanks to our friends at Billabong Sanctuary!

WEEK THREE 17-21 JANUARY

Bug Floor Talk

1.30-2pm daily
Queensland Museum entomologist Dr Chris Burwell will give you a tour of the amazing creatures on display in the Creepy Crawlies Alive exhibit.

Bug Bits

10am & 12pm daily
Explore the anatomy of bugs through games and craft and test your memory with our giant insect “match-up” game. Bookings required. Ages 5-12.

Sand Art

11am-12pm
Create your own creepy crawly masterpiece using templates and coloured sand. Bookings required. Ages 5-12.

Bring in a Bug

9.30am-5pm daily
Found an unusual insect in your yard? Would you like to know more about it? Bring it into the museum and our entomologist (bug expert) will identify it for you!

 

DAILY ACTIVITIES 4-21 JANUARY

Make Your Own Bug

9.30am-5pm daily
Make your own special insect to add to our giant spider’s web! Guardian supervision required.

“My Creepy Passport” Trail

9.30am-5pm daily
Collect a Creepy Passport from our front counter, then complete both our sensory trail and the trail at Reef HQ to collect a prize.

Meet our Mascot, Beau

11.30am weekdays
Come and say ‘hi’ to our cuddly mascot, Beau, the big, beautiful, blue Ulysses butterfly!

Face Painting/Games

2-3pm weekdays
Choose from our set of insect or spider designs and your face painting artist will tell you about your chosen creepy crawly, while she transforms your face. Play games while you wait! A popular activity, get in quick! Ages 4-12.

3D Images

9.30am-5pm weekdays
Marvel at some of North Queensland’s most magnificent creepy crawlies in 3D!

Storytelling

11am weekdays
Our museum volunteers will read their favourite storybooks with you but watch out! They are all about creepy crawlies!

Children must be supervised at all times by a parent/guardian.
