Dinosaurs Up Late

Explore the Museum after dark and discover a prehistoric playground for people 18+.

This is the first time the Museum has opened late just for adults (without the kids). Experience music, talks and demonstrations, prepare real fossils, meet live birds of prey plus meet our 20 life-size moving dinosaurs in the Dinosaur Discovery: Lost Creatures of the Cretaceous exhibition.

 

There is also a trip for two to the Rugby League World Cup Final in Brisbane on 2 December 2017 to be won just by subscribing to our enews during Dinosaurs Up Late! (Conditions of entry are available here.)

Dinosaur Discovery: Lost Creatures of the Cretaceous

Prepare for a close encounter with some of the most extraordinary creatures to ever walk the Earth. Dinosaur Discovery features 20 moving, life-size dinosaur models including T. rex and Muttaburrasaurus.

Grab yourself a sun-downer from the bar and relax on the balcony overlooking the marina and Castle Hill.

 

Colby Wilson Level 1 Balcony, 5pm – 7.30pm

Chill out to tunes by local acoustic artist, Colby Wilson.

 

Constructasaurus Level 1 Box Gallery, 5pm – 7.30pm

Gather some friends and put together our giant 3D dinosaur skeletons.

Demonstrations

 

Meet live birds of prey Science Gallery, 5pm – 7.30pm

Meet Deborah Carter and some of her live birds of prey and learn more about the challenges facing raptors today. Deb and her birds, including Atlas the Wedge-tailed Eagle, Bruiser the Barking Owl, Ford the Brown Falcon and Lady Hawk the Pacific Baza, will be in the gallery throughout the night.

 

Palaeontology Level 2, 5pm – 7.30pm

Check out the palaeo lab on Level 2 and try your hand at extracting a real fossil from its substrate.

 

Taxidermy Level 2, 5pm – 7.30pm

Meet the Museum’s taxidermy volunteers and learn more about the ancient art of taxidermy.

 

 

Talks

 

Hunting Jurassic Sea Monsters in the Arctic Level 1 Theatre, 5.30pm & 6.30pm

Meet the Museum’s new palaeontologist, Dr Espen Knutsen, who was part of a team that discovered several new marine creatures including a Jurassic-era leviathan nicknamed "The Monster", an immense creature measuring up to 15 metres.
