International Museum Day

FREE ENTRY - ALL DAY

To celebrate International Museum Day, entry is free all day to the Museum of Tropical Queensland on Friday 18 May. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the Museum and take advantage of a full program of tours, talks and activities.

 

SPECIAL EVENTS

Beau's Buddies

9.45am–10.30am

This is an activity ideal for children aged 6 and under. This led-activity starts with a new museum object being revealed and discussed. Children learn about the object, hear a related story and join in craft activities.

 

Pandora Collection Store Tour  

11am-11.30am

An exclusive look behind the scenes at some of the artefacts retrieved from HMS Pandora. Bookings are essential and may be made on the day at Museum reception. Limit 10 people. All participants must be 15 years and over and wear enclosed shoes.

  

Sea Monsters from the Arctic

12pm-1pm

Join Dr Espen Knutsen, Senior Curator Palaeontology, Queensland Museum, and learn about his work digging for ancient sea monsters in the Arctic circle.

 

The Pandora Expeditions

1pm-2pm

Join our Exhibitions Officer, Vivienne Moran as she describes how some of HMS Pandora’s objects were found and recovered during 9 expeditions to the wreck site, covering a 16 year period.

  

Kids Craft

All day long

We bring back some of our favourite craft activities for families to colour, cut, glue and paste to their hearts content!
