Winning Sky Photos: the David Malin Awards 2012

Twenty four spectacular photographs of the Australian night sky will be on display as part of the touring exhibition Winning sky photos: the David Malin Awards 2012.

This stunning exhibition features the winners and select entries from the annual photography competition organised by the Central West Astronomical Society and inspired by the world-renowned astronomy photographer and competition judge, Dr David Malin.

A record number of people across Australia took part in this year’s competition and categories included: Deep Sky, Wide Field, Solar System, Junior (17 years and under), Animated Sequences and a Themed Section “Symmetries”.

Pictures on display range from spectacular wide field solar system images of planets and the Sun, deep space images of nebula and the Southern Milky Way, images taken in cities and the outback, and an extraordinary image of Comet Lovejoy as it passed by late 2011.

MTQ is the only venue in Queensland to host this annual touring exhibition.
