Troppo! North Queensland Larger Than Life

Troppo! exhibition
Come and meet the colourful characters in Troppo! North Queensland Larger Than Life

Discover the larger than life characters of North Queensland.

This big, bright and bold exhibition literally bursts out of its gallery. Step inside and be welcomed by flamboyant caricatures which provide a quirky entry point to the fascinating history of Townsville and Thuringowa.

The caricatures each represent themes of the North Queensland region’s history – a soldier, a ship’s captain, a marine scientist, a pioneer farmer and a 'gone troppo' man! These caricatures provide a fun and quirky entry point to some meaty topics that shed light on Townsville and Thuringowa’s fascinating history including the military, marine biology and the reef, farming by our pioneers, indigenous and ethnic cultures and maritime history as relevant to the North Queensland region.

Each caricature also features a story with a contemporary edge that highlights some of our popular pastimes and the way we live now.

Entertaining 'yarns', interactive touch screens, artefacts and information-packed films paint an affectionate, yet accurate, portrait of life in North Queensland. Children will be enthralled by the imposing presence of this exhibition and entertained by the activities available.

Troppo! is more than just an exhibition – it is a gateway for accessing the colourful history and heritage of North Queensland, revealing the distinctive qualities of the region….. You’ll discover more at MTQ!
