Discover HMS Pandora, explore our natural and cultural heritage, and contribute to our community's growth through education and understanding.

Volunteer Guides are recruited once a year. The next recruitment will be mid-2006. Advertising is circulated to attend the information session at least two weeks prior to the date.

What does a Volunteer Guide do?
Volunteer Guides make visitors welcome, provide information, conduct guided tours, work with school students and support museum staff in the production and presentation of interpretive materials.

Depending on your time, skills and interests, you can participate in a range of museum activities.

Do I need special skills?
Being comfortable speaking to a group of people is desirable, as well as a firm commitment to the program and its goals. Applicants must be 18 years old or over.

What is expected of me as a Volunteer?
Volunteer Guides are asked to make a commitment to Volunteer 4 hours per week for the first 12 months. If you are able to Volunteer only on weekends you may contribute less time after discussion with the Volunteer Coordinator.

What are the benefits of being a Volunteer Guide?
Our Volunteer Guide training program provides you with fascinating insights into the museum and its displays of natural history and culture of North Queensland.

You will have opportunities to participate in excursions, meet new friends and become part of a team of enthusiastic and dedicated museum supporters. A range of discounts are offered to our Volunteers, in addition to parking privileges while on duty.

How do I become a Volunteer?
After submitting a completed application form to the Museum (available at the Front Desk, the applicants are interviewed and those selected attend the training course commencing late August. Applicants are matched up with mentors (current Volunteers) who guide their training. Prior to acceptance, applicants need to successfully complete the training program and satisfy the disclosure criteria.
